Do you remember that commercial, it was years ago, where the women were playing basketball in high awesome stiletto's? I have absolutely no idea what the product was, probably some kind of insert, but I remember it any way just because they were wearing these wonderful shoes. At first glance you would think, "um, that is not safe. How dare they portray that as a good idea! Heels shouldn't be worn like that." I beg to differ, er, sort of.
Ok, so maybe I have a bit of a shoe obsession, but that's beside the point. You can probably tell that by the picture I have on my background of this blog. This is a freebie side note too......those were my amazing wedding shoes (a gift from Kyle). They were wonderfully awesome high Christian Louboutin's and they made my feet feel like little goddesses for the day. I wore them most of the day. I never fell, never tripped, and never even wobbled even though I was wearing a gigantic and super heavy dress while standing up for hours on end for pictures and people. The whole point of this post is WHY, in my world, flats can be just as dangerous or more so than heels, and why I have decided that if it weren't for tennis shoes and flip-flops, I'd only wear heels.
Case and point, last week I stood in front of my mirrior trying to decide on two types of shoes. Both were the same color, but the difference was one pair were heels and one were flats. I, much to my chagrin later on, decided on the flats. Have you ever noticed that dress flats don't exactly have the best grip on the bottom? Well, I was reminded of that on my way to lunch. Now, I have walked up and down the concrete staircase at work so many times that it's hard to keep count. I'm often wearing sky high, in your face, stileto's. It was inevitable that what happened next would occur during my employement here, but I would have bet you money that it would NOT have been that day, in flats. I started down the stairs, doing all of the precautionary things that you do when going down staircases, holding the rail, watching my step, etc. Next to the last step came into view, and Bam! I felt my non-friction allowing flats slip out from under me. Now, I am a very stable person, rarely falling or slipping, something about ability to pay attention and lower body whatever. That day, I was bested by none other than a pair of seemingly innocent flats. Luckily there was nothing broken or pulled, just a little bruised and swollen on one ankle. And a new understanding of what a pair of flats can do to a girl!
My mind has been made up. I've decided that due to that one incident, heels are my shoe of choice for every occasion. Well, maybe not basketball like that commercial I mentioned in the beginning of this blog or maybe not for a jog or plyometrics either.... Ok, so maybe it's not a very scientific study or even conclusion, but I have decided that heels not only make your legs look gorgeous, your posture better, and height a few inches taller, but it also makes you safer. I'm only looking out for your well being! So for all that is good, go buy some beautiful long thin high heels. Safety first ladies, safety first! :-D
